Bug #: 49977
Summary: rfe [writer] [ui] : add potrait/landscape page
orientation toggle icon to LibreO-Writer toolbar
Classification: Unclassified
Product: LibreOffice
Version: LibO 3.5.3 release
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
AssignedTo: [email protected]
ReportedBy: [email protected]
add a page orientation toggle icon to iconbar in LibreO writer.
0) had a help request from a user who was having problems with the
ability/convenience of toggling the orientation of a page between
portrait/landscape.
the user was expecting the location of an icon to toggle the portrait/landscape
to be readily accessible on the toolbar or somewhere else on boilerplate but
after a few minutes of searching the user had to dig out the setting
from 'format-page-orientation portrait/landscape'
the arguement was that
1. you oreint the paper first,
2. then you pick fonts/justifications/etc
3. only then do you begin writing on it.
so that although the page orientation might be infrequently used
it should still be readily accessible since its a primary consideration
in the composition process.
1) later when looked back at notes after digging out the format-page menu fix,
i was surprised that checking the clickmenu for
visible_buttons/customize_toolbar
didnt seem to have a page_orientation icon
to toggle between page format on demand
but that it had a customize_toolbar-format-'Page formatting' entry
that pulls up the entire formating dialog window?
i realize that toolbar realestate is limited but
might be worth adding some kind of one touch non_menu access to
page_orientation functionality (if it doesnt already exist?).
yet another icon may not be the most intuitive way in the long term but
for the short term simply adding a 'portrait/landscape toggle' icon
to the clickmenu visible_button list in addition to
its potentially cumbersome location in a submenu?
(or at least putting the page_orientation icon into
the customize-format list so the user can choose to add it if they
figure out how to customize the toolbar. :') )
