Formulas become invisible / corrupted?, impress crashes after a short while.

Just when you thought your slides were safe, not losing their pretty images
anymore: Silently oh so silently the formulas sneak away ...

Formulas become invisible and disappear from the list of user defined
animations. When double-clicking on the empty space where the formula should
be, it can be edited and reappears.

At least, when Impress doesn't crash before which happens e.g. when scrolling
to the last slides where impress crashes with "Fatal Error - bad allocation".
Maybe related to bug 97396?

This might be a corruption created by LO 5.0.3 (5.0.2?), the default version
under Linux Mint 17.3 which I used very briefly.

So, is there a version suitable for serious work?

4.4.7 ("rock stable") doesn't display all objects in presentation mode, I can't
select those objects in edit mode
5.0.3 - crashes even when inserting a new slide
5.1.2 - see above

Is Impress supposed to work with presentations containing more than 3 slides?
Or images? Or formulas?
