Just switch the setting from Tools>Options... to "Show", and never touch it
again. Then the effect of View > Grid Lines for Sheet is visible. These two
ways don't play nice together, that's a known issue... (and the plan was
eventually to remove the one from Tools>Options..., it's just that no one had
the time for it yet).
