I've made an observation which I think may help to find the cause of the bug:
On my system the number of missing letters in slide titles seems to be related
to the size of the Impress window. The problem is most severe with a maximized
window on my external screen (27'', 3840x2160 pixels). When I reduce the window
size to about 2/3 of the screen, there are no missing letters anymore. On the
internal laptop screen (14'', 2560x1440), occasionally I get a single missing
letter with a maximized Impress window, and no missing letters with smaller
window sizes.
