Non-break space becomes U+00B0 ° if the document is saved as .doc or .docx.
Reproduce:
Open a new document. Type a non-breaking space (Crtl+Shift+Space),i.e. 1 m.
Save file as .doc or docx. Open in word. -> non-breaking space will show as °,
i.e. 1°m.
LO 5.1.4.2 on Ubuntu 14.04.
