I'm quite convinced this can be addressed only properly if the parent document
is opened following the symlink on user demand, either through an option or
after having determined that it was opened using a symlink and there are
relative external links in the document, and then reloading the doc after
having asked the user. Everything else IMHO is a hack that will cause other
problems.
