After playing with reverting my patch; debugging version attached; I'm really
un-convinced that there is a regression left here. Also this bug is really bad
style - three+ bugs wedged into a single issue =)
Robinson / Matthew - could you split the bug into several pieces ? and it would
be good to know which earlier versions this worked better in =)
