I checked with 4.4.0.3 & 5.2.1.2 / Ubuntu 16.04.
CJK file names looked fine even after switching locales and restarting. In
4.4.0.3 right after changing locale to Japanese, file name in recent files had
blocks instead, but even then it displayed fine after restarting LO.
Can you test with a current version? I wonder if it could depend on
distribution or desktop environment.
