Hm ... for me, it seems to work.

I have installed LibreOffice 3.5.4.2 (Build-ID:
165a79a-7059095-e13bb37-fef39a4-9503d18) on MacOS X 10.6.8 locally to my user
profile, i.e. at
 ~/Applications/LibreOffice/LibreOffice.app
Therefore, the input and output of my Terminal session are:

$ ~/Applications/LibreOffice/LibreOffice.app/Contents/program/python
Python 2.6.1 (r261:67515, May 22 2012, 08:19:34)
[GCC 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5494)] on darwin
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import uno
>>>

That's it: no abort. This is the output from "uname -a" on my machine:

Darwin <machine name>.local 10.8.0 Darwin Kernel Version 10.8.0: Tue Jun  7
16:33:36 PDT 2011; root:xnu-1504.15.3~1/RELEASE_I386 i386

This leads to the question: what is the (human readable) MacOS X version you
use (probably 10.7.x)? Maybe this crash has something to do with the MacOS X
version? (I don't know why, but I see no other important difference between
your and my configuration; the LibreOffice-provided Python seems to be
identical.)
