You're right.
Maybe it could be a good idea to include a warning in the value field's
tooltip?
Something like:
Please note that "X" is not the same as X. The first will define a character
string, while the second will reference the column X's values in the sheet.
Or some other help in formatting the values right? Maybe a "Help" button next
to the value with a dialog explaining this in more detail?
