They don’t support Unicode, they are limited to 256 characters/glyphs, they
don’t support complex scripts. Even Adobe stopped making them for a decade and
half now.
You can convert Type 1 fonts to OpenType using freely available tools, like
makeotf from AFDKO (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/opentype/afdko.html) and as a
bonus this bug with be “magically” fixed.
