You might be using some weird font, and additionally have a Japanese codepage
as system codepage, or something like that. It isn't totally random that
backslashes turn to 'y', as in some 8-bit code pages the same code point is
used for the Yen sign ¥ and that after all is a (capital) Y with two bars
across it, so there might be some plausible mechanism. LibreOffice of course is
supposed to be totally Unicode, but strange things happen...
