I am positive, if the it was known that dropping Type 1 fonts would prevent us
from correctly importing MS Word documents on Linux, we would not have decided
to drop Type 1 fonts. It's estimated there are 500 billion Word documents
generated a single year.[1] I would be impressed if LibreOffice has generated
500 native odf documents in the history of the project.

We have to address this as MS Word compatibility is vital. Should this be
brought up at the next ESC? If support for support Type 1 fonts is totally out
of the question, maybe some experts in other areas can help you fix this on a
different level. Could this be handled on the import level or by including
system fonts?
