Interestingly, my crash in 5.2.3.3 (x86) / Windows 7 is somewhat different.
It also gave a SEH Exception dialog when it crashed.

No crash in 5.2.0.4 or 5.1.0.3 => regression. (Writer becomes sluggish after
inserting the image, though)
