TDF Board [1] has considered taking in the Thunderbird project, and there was
some spirited discussion on User ML [2].
All of which might be interesting if Thunderbird were to find a new home and
leave Mozilla.
Otherwise, out of scope for the project. LO Devs are not going to write an
email client into the source.
