If you could provide a mock up (using GIMP or some other software) that would be incredibly helpful, if not just a really detailed explanation of what you mean and how you would envision this. I think that a major UI change is not in the works currently so this may be put as WONTFIX with a whiteboard comment of some kind so that when/if we start doing a major change we can check out comments that have suggestions like this one.
