which language version of LibreOffice I was using:
on Windows:
Tools --> Options --> Language Settings --> Languages
Locale Setting: German (Switzerland)
on Mac OS:
LibreOffice --> Preferences --> Language Settings --> Languages
Locale Setting: Default - English (USA)
I fixed Local Setting to German (Switzerland).
