Bug ID: 104940
Summary: Formulaic Charts for Making Multiple Graphs Easy to
Make.
Product: LibreOffice
Version: unspecified
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: Calc

Description:
I collect a lot of data from experiments that I need to plot. I can format the
same data in the same way every time, but I always end up needing to manually
change the data ranges on each plot, which gets tedious when I have dozens of
experiments.
What I would like to see is a way to make a plot assign all its data ranges
relative to an "Anchor Cell". You would set up the plot by selecting all the
data ranges as normal, (the name, X values, Y Values, etc) but you'd also
assign an Anchor Cell. So when you have multiple instances of data laid out in
the same format, you could copy the plot, change the Anchor, and the new copy
would update will all the new data.
The idea could be extended so that plots with multiple data series could be
simplified. Say I have two similar sets of data which need their own plots, but
one set will have more data series. Rather than manually set the name, X, and Y
values for the extra data series, if every series had an anchor cell, we could
add a new series, and adjust its anchor cell to match the extra data.
Failing this, I would at least like the ability to enter data ranges as formula
instead of picking cells from the spreadsheet every time. It could do a lot of
stuff in conjunction with ADDRESS and INDIRECT. Failing this, it would save me
some time if I tell the scatter plot that all data series will use the same X
values so I don't have to enter the X range for every series.
