If you go into edit mode in the new sheet (double-click the chart), is Data
Ranges in the right-click context menu greyed out?
I think you should attach your document here. Maybe there is something special.
And/or try to create a simple one from scratch, just 1,2,3,4 -> chart and try
it out.
