I understand now. Somehow by having many more documents without merged cells
like that, I never noticed this behavior until now, and since they all worked
flawlessly, it never even crossed my mind that it could be the problem.
It also tells me that merging cells is not necessary to make room for more text
or layout, but rather when needed for functionality only. I don't think that
it is well documented though, as not one sole on the AskLibreOffice forum has
been able to help yet.
