Couldn't confirm this behavior with OpenSUSE 42.1 64bit rpm Linux.
Works as expected with internal HSQLDB. (Added tables, closed
relationship-window without saving, tables doesn't appear when reopening)
Unable to add any table when trying to create relations with internal Firebird
(LO hangs when trying to add ...).
Creating the relationship doesn't work with Firebird: See bug 101230.
Tested here with version: 5.4.0.0.alpha1+
