It appears that the main issue is that this has been called an Enhancement
rather than what it really is, which is a poorly conceived and designed
"Feature" and which is really a BUG that needs to be fixed.
I can't imagine anyone wanting these characteristics as currently implemented.
It seems that calling it an enhancement justifies ignoring it for 3 years in
the past and quite likely for more years in the future.
