--- Comment #11 from Regina Henschel <rb.hensc...@t-online.de> ---
I do not get the error in Windows but see the error in a virtual machine with
Ubuntu. So it is likely a Linux-only problem. I don't know, whether this is
really a bug. I forehandedly set it to new. A Linux expert should decide.

The characters in the fontwork have the font "Tahoma". That font is not
installed on your machine, and if it were, it would not contain the needed code
range "Ethiopic". So LibreOffice requests a font substitute. With that it is
able to view the characters in regular text and if in edit mode in the
fontwork, but not if in fontwork-rendering.

For to solve the problem for you:
Goto Tools > Options > Language Settings > Languages and enable Complex Text
Layout. Restart LibreOffice.
Open the file and double-click the fontwork to go into edit mode.
Press Ctrl-A to select all characters.
>From the font drop-down-list in the toolbar select font "Abyssinica SIL", which
has the needed code range. Or goto Format > Character > Font and change the
font in the "CTL Font" field to "Abyssinica SIL".
