Further testing shows that I can also confirm with a Hiragino or LiSungPro
formatted string when I:
- select the string in Hiragino or LiSungPro and
- change the font to Arial
the impugned character, whether it be the "➀" or "⌘" is displayed as a square.
So, clearly a font fallback issue.
