Hm. Or it's one of these nasty "occurs occasionally, you never know"...
I'm quite having some trouble with formulas. Perfectly reproduceable in ubuntu
17.10 and debian 9.1 is this one:
* create a new file
* insert OLE object
* first see only an icon (see screen)
* after close and reopen you'll be fine.
