Bug #: 53653
Summary: FILEOPEN: Attempting to open Very Large Excel
Spreadsheets CRASH Calc.
Classification: Unclassified
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 3.6.0.4 release
Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Status Whiteboard: BSA
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Spreadsheet
AssignedTo: [email protected]
ReportedBy: [email protected]
Problem description: When I attempt to open large (~13MB or greater) excel
spreadsheets, Calc first becomes very busy; CPU activity maxes out; memory
usage is great but not 100%. After a long lock up, system diagnostics indicate
that libreoffice is waiting for something to happen even as the CPU keeps
churning. Then libreoffice crashes. When libreoffice is restarted, any
attempt to "recover" starts the crash all over again. My work around has been
to open the Excel sheets on another computer using Gnome's Gnumeric. Gnumeric
opens the Excel sheets instantaneously; then I convert them to open document
.ods files, whereafter I can open them using libreoffice calc with all
functionality, but without the speed of operations using Gnumeric.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Attempt to open any very large Excel spreadsheet.
Current behavior: As described.
Expected behavior: Easy to open large Excel sheets, and rapid operation of
sheet functions.
Platform (if different from the browser): I am using libreoffice Version
3.6.0.4 (Build ID: 932b512) installed from the rpms on either Slackware 13.37
or 13.31.
Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.28) Gecko/20120314
Firefox/3.6.28
