As I understand, the bug reporter suggested to implement the feature that is
called "Merge across" in MS Office. It merges cells not to the one large cell,
but merge all cells in each row inside selection. E.g. 5x5 selection will
produce the 5x1 result. Here is the video about merging cells in Excel:

I can not find such function in Calc, so I join the feature request. It is very
useful feature.
