Bug ID: 119395
Summary: Default Page Margins - Revisited
Product: LibreOffice
Version: unspecified
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
I know there is another bug with this that is set to "RESOLVED WORKSFORME", but
there is something that I have not seen considered in the previous discussion,
and this is this:
When one downloads LibreOffice / LibreWriter in the United States, the default
margin settings are .79 " all around. As we all know, this is simply a
conversion of 2cm, which is the default that was created for A4.
You may argue that 2cm creates a good line-length on A4 paper - fine. But 8.5 x
11 is significantly wider than A4, and so has a significantly longer
line-length that on A4 with the same margins.
What I'm saying is that margin width is really about line-length. What should
be done is this: Whatever the decision about default *line-length*, that
decision should apply to both 8.5 x 11 and A4.
In other words, if you think 2cm on A4 makes a good default line-length, then
find out what creates *the same line-length on 8.5 x 11*, and use THAT margin
on 8.5 x 11 - don't just convert the A4 margin to 8.5 x 11. Because doing so is
simply incorrect.
