>From what I can see there are bugs that can take many, many years to
characterize and finally fix.  

I for one am trying to learn enough about C++ to try and fix some of these
myself, but it's a slow rocky road getting up to speed.  


For now I'd say lighten up a little.  


I think you should just let these bugs hang there for years until someone has
time to resolve them.  

But that's just my 2c.  I don't really know all what everyone is dealing with
here.
