I mixed up something; proper steps
1. Insert a table (2x2)
2. insert a 2x2 table inside A1
3. Type something into A1 of the embedded table
4. CTRL+A (3x) (when inside A1 of the embedded table)
5. CTRL+X
6. CTRL+V
