This is a good idea, however if I understand the screenshot attached by the original reporter correctly then his problem is NOT that formulas are missing (like in bug 46716), but that many symbols in the formulas are displayed wrong (as other symbols, or placeholder glyphs). IIRC this is yet another, maybe Mac-specific problem.
