I don't think that that patch should be reverted; only that something is
missing (possibly some code checks types strictly, and fails now not getting
expected type somewhere?). I can't test the bug myself - so I can't fix it; but
you said that you can - that's why I suppose you are in the right position to
check that and fix ;-)
