So it looks a Mac OS specific problem indeed. Nevertheless I still believe that it might be an LO bug. Printing of other documents (e.g. pdf, jpg, png, bpm) of this size with other means (e.g. acrobat reader, Photoshop elements, Preview) seems to work fine.
