the issue doesn't affect the 5.4.x branch and appeared during the developement
of the 6.0.x branch (see comment 11).
a bibisect was performed long time ago (see comment 13) but it seems that
information was not used to fix the problem that still affects current 6.3.x
master where the loading speed of the replacement table is still too much slow
compared to 5.4.x
