solution:

all? (almost most) unwanted formatting changes and changes of content can be
undone by hitting ctrl-z after the change,

calc performs and stores two different steps, first the change by the user,
then the change be 'prettyfying', 'similarity search' or whatever,

with the first 'ctrl-z' after that the user can undo unwanted automatic
changes, with the second 'ctrl-z' his input is undone,

nice feature!, but!!!

there should be some more hints on this behaviour, preferably it should be
turned off on a fresh install, and only be activated on user request,

otherwise - as it is now - it may take plenty of time of a user to investigate
why the program doesn't follow his intention ...
