I can confirm the case with the simplified document (comment 5 and comment 6)
got fixed with the following commit:

I'm not sure what the situation is with this issue, there's the original
description, and there's comment 5 and comment 6, bibisected to different
changes. The steps in the description can't even be completed now, as there's a
crash after step 3, bug 129805 has been opened on that.
