Many thinks for your thorough analysis, this helps a lot. I'd summarize:
Navigator selection just scrolling the document is not uncommon, single click
overrides double is done at some.

That's the point. Ahiijny's comment suggests, however, that not too many users
expect a context menu in the Navigator.
