there is a lag, not dramatic but it is,
is it neccessary?
when opening the autofilter dialog for a new column somewhere is a matrix(?)
with the info which rows are to be displayed / hidden, you need not work
through all columns all items and combine them to produce the autofilter list
(as proposed in c#4), just get the 'open' possibilities for this column - less
than 40.000, and produce a sorted de-duplicated list,
imho that can work faster ...
btw. it looks as it's not possible or not implemented to sync autofilter
definition to 'standard filter' ... thus switching to standard filter after
autofilter sort criteria are set produces crap,
