dates are still recognized as dates if entered in the form of
"Tools->Options->Language settings->Languages->Date acceptance patterns" which
in my case (all languages settings in Tools->Options->Language
settings->Languages set to "Default - English (US)") corresponds to "M/D/Y;M/D"
and if I for instance type "12/30/12" it is interpreted correctly as date
(December 30th, 2012), same for "12/30". In some cases (it seems as if it
happens if the first number is >12 and hence not a month), it is interpreted in
the form YYYY-MM-DD instead, which is a bit surprising.
