I can't confirm. I have Office 2003 with the compatibility pack, and I have
never run into troubles with opening LO generated docx files. Tested with both
7.1 and 7.0.
Confirmed that native2.docx contains
<w:compat>
<w:compatSetting w:name="compatibilityMode"
w:uri="http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/word"; w:val="15"/>
</w:compat>
