Thank you for your quick response and link.
harfbuzz library is quite old on my slackware; I've installed Alienbob's LO
package but the problem with Base persists (although it did solve a problem
with Draw)
I can live without Base until hopefully the next release of Slackware allows me
to upgrade needed libraries. I've changed the status to resolved / notourbug
accordingly.
