By any chance, when the soffice process hangs, is anything produced in the
system log ? That might help pinpoint the issue.
It might also be helpful if you get a crashlog, although it seems to me that
Apple's internal crash reporter no longer gets systematically called when LO
dies unexpectedly (more's the pity).
