Thanks for point that out Buovjaga, I now found it reported upstream:

As with many other programs that try to gain new users on GTK-based desktops,
this is really a UI disaster for new users. Hoping it gains more attention. The
bug is reported in many flavors over the past decade, but with the latest Gnome
“type to search”, it got a lot worse.
