If you first sort left to right and then top to bottom, the second sort step
also fails to keep proper formatting. So it is always the second step. In my
example the top part (with the values filled) shows how everything is expected
to work (and it does work, as you can see). The bottom part of the example
(with only one value filled) does not work properly (see the result produced --
you can try it for yourself)
