I love your idea to talk to ESC with regards to the Aw080 work by Armin at Apache. It is a major rewrite (> 2 years of work) which LO will benefit a lot. In the last paragraph of Armin's wiki entry, he asks for bug fixes and that it must be "tested carefully before aw080 can be reintegrated".
