When trying to format them as numbers LibreOffice should have no trouble recognizing that some of the values are not 'numbers' and should perhaps open a dialog box to offer me the opportunity to convert the 'text' numbers to 'numeric' numbers. This would make it possible for me to sort them. I will submit it as a feature proposal.
