I couldn't build LO myself, but:
Do you see "Connect directly" in step 2 of the wizard?
This might be a bug.
You could connect to MySQL by ODBC and JDBC without any problem it direct
connection doesn't work. And this two connections should be offered by the
wizard when choosing MySQL in the first step.
