It may already have been posted, but I couldn't find this suggestion:
Make the first item under the menu item >File>Recent_Documents a link to a
next-level submenu outlining the types.
So far it's only UI-related. In addition each one of the outlined lists may
show more of the special part of the history than the all-types item does.
