Bug ID: 141430
Summary: "New" missing from autotext dialog until name is typed
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 7.1.1.2 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
I want to insert a new AutoText entry based on my current selection. So, on the
menu,, I go to Tools | AutoText, and the dialog comes up. And... I'm stumped.
There is no "New" button. Nor does the AutoText menubutton have a New item.
This, while the online help suggests it should exist:
https://help.libreoffice.org/7.1/en-US/text/swriter/01/02120000.html?System=UNIX&DbPAR=WRITER&HID=modules/swriter/ui/autotext/grid1#@@nowidget@@
only if I type a name in the name box _and_ have something typed in the
shortcut box do the New entries on the AutoText menu button.
This is confusing, especially for new users (excuse the pun). People do not
expect menu items to silently appear or disappear because of text typed in a
textbox.
Instead, the "New" and "New (text only)" entries should _always_ appear, but be
grayed-out before they are applicable. Alternatively, they shouldn't be grayed
out, but trigger an error message explaining why both a name and a shortcut are
necessary for creating a new entry.
