Confirmation: Crash occurs only during data entry in sub forms whether
amending or adding a new record.
I cannot test your last request. Must catch a plane will be in and out rest
of day.

As I said, this is recommended when using a non-MySQL ODBC data source.

Just to be clear, this error message appears when inserting new data in the
subform?

Try with just "ODBC" and (in advanced settings of the database) check the box
next to "replace named parameters by ?". Does it make a difference, or same
error message.
